Now I’ve departed the big smoke for the rolling hills of Devon, I’ve been getting out on my Charge Duster a bit more. I also took the new 29er, the Cooker out for a spin. I don’t know a great deal about mountain bikes but I was a little sceptical when I heard that mountain bikes with 29 inch wheels were the new big thing. I just thought ‘why?’
The answer to my questions appears to be that 29ers roll faster and blast their way through all terrain. It felt really fast and stable and like it could roll over absolutely anything. I was great! I did occasionally feel like it was harder to manouever into a really tight berm but that may well have been as I was riding a bike which was too big for me.
This Thursday I’m off to Somerset to race in Red Bull Weavers, which sees a pair of riders race head to head down a kind of slalom cut out of a field of corn. Sounds wierd, eh? But sounds ace!
